Daily SOAP is a free Bible reading and journaling app for iPhone, Android and the web (web.dailysoap.app). It is made by volunteers and operated by Harvest Mission Community Church (Hong Kong) Limited ("we", "us"). We are responsible for the personal information collected through Daily SOAP.
This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it, and the choices you have. By using Daily SOAP, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: your name and email address. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address from that provider. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive a relay address instead.
- Your journal: your SOAP entries (Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer), notes and devotional reflections.
- Reading progress: your reading plan and the passages you have completed.
- Profile and settings: your profile information and app settings.
Information collected automatically
- Push notification tokens, so we can send the reminders and notifications you have turned on.
- Usage and diagnostic data, collected through Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics. This can include your device model, operating system version, app version, IP address, the time and date of use, how you use app features, and crash logs.
Information stored only on your device
Some app preferences are stored only on your device and are not sent to us. The web version stores your sign-in session in your browser so you stay signed in.
Your journal is private unless you share it
Your SOAP entries are private by default. Only you can see them.
When you share an entry, only the people you share it with can see it. Those people can also see your name. They cannot see your email address or your other entries.
Your entries may contain reflections and prayers that reveal your religious beliefs. We treat this as sensitive information. We only use it to provide the app to you, and we only show it to the people you choose to share it with.
How we use your information
We use your information to:
- create and maintain your account and sign you in;
- store and sync your entries, reading progress and settings across your devices;
- show your shared entries to the people you share them with;
- send the reminders and notifications you have turned on;
- find and fix crashes and bugs, and understand how the app is used so we can improve it.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Service providers
We use the following Google services to run Daily SOAP. They process data on our behalf and only as needed to provide their service.
- Firebase (Authentication, database, Cloud Messaging, Google Analytics for Firebase and Crashlytics): Privacy and security in Firebase

- Sign in with Apple: Apple Privacy Policy
Apple (App Store) and Google (Google Play) also collect information when you download the app, under their own privacy policies.
We may disclose information if the law requires it, or if we need to protect the safety of our users or others.
Where your data is stored
Your data is stored on Google's Firebase servers. These servers may be located outside Hong Kong, including in the United States. Google protects this data under its own security and privacy commitments.
Security
We use the security measures provided by Firebase, including encrypted connections and access rules, to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet or of electronic storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your information for as long as you have an account.
You can delete your account at any time in the app, or by submitting a request through our account deletion form. When you do, we delete your account and the data linked to it, including your entries, within 30 days of your request. Entries you shared with others are deleted too. Analytics and crash data are kept separately by Google under its own retention settings.
Your rights
You can view and update most of your information in the app. You can also ask us to:
- give you a copy of your personal information;
- correct information that is wrong;
- delete your account and data.
Depending on where you live, you may have other rights under data protection laws, such as Hong Kong's Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance or the EU General Data Protection Regulation. To delete your account, use the account deletion form above. For other requests, use the contact form below.
Children's privacy
Daily SOAP is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that a child under 13 has given us personal information, we will delete it. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us personal information, please contact us.
Links to other sites
Daily SOAP may contain links to other websites that we do not operate. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, so please review their privacy policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and change the "Last updated" date above. Changes take effect when they are posted.
